When professional remediation has been skipped, the chance of molds growing in a home or building becomes very likely.

But what are the signs that mold has started to infest a home?

Environmental Services Group shared warning signs of potential mold growth.

“They may look pretty from afar, but icicles can be a clear sign that conditions in your residential or commercial property may be ideal for mold growth. Icicles on your eaves or roofline indicate heat loss from inside the house and this situation, coupled with snow on the roof and cold temperatures, can cause ice dams. Snow on the roof melts due to the sun or due to heat loss from the house (such as the attic) and then trickles down. When cold temperatures return, the melted snow will freeze, forming ice dams, or thick, solid barriers of ice that form along the edges of the roof. These then prevent future melting snow from properly draining off the roof. Ice dams can cause rook leaks, damage to shingles and gutters, and water to back up and enter your home.”

AA Action Water Proofing also shared some signs of mold growth, this time specific to the basement.

“While mold can be tough to spot, there are always ways you can pick it out if you know where and how to look. Mold will leave its subtle signs even when it’s tough to see, and knowing how to read these subtle signs can save you from turning a small remediation job into a much larger one.”

Professional Help

Wise Mind Healthy Body says the best way to find out if old has already infested a home or a commercial structure, is by having a mold growth test or inspection.

est your home for mold. One of the best tests is called an ERMI, and I suggest that you hire an environmental professional to perform a visual inspection of your home and sample several rooms. You can perform an ERMI on your own at a lower price (about $325) but it’s only helpful if it’s positive, in which case you’ll need to hire an environmental professional. So I suggest skip the self-testing.”
